At one time, NGA did a nationwide survey that indicated the typical garden size and a rough yield per square foot. Is this information still available? |
Here it is, as computed by our Director of Research, Bruce Butterfield. The median size of a U.S. veggie plot is 200 square feet. Bruce estimates the yield at 0.9 lbs/sq. ft., so the typical home plot would produce 180 lbs. of vegetables in a growing season. That's a lot of food! |
